  1. You can experiment by using your own images or by using one of the images in one of the image galleries

  2. If you want to use one of your own images, press "Process your Images" in the main menu and then press "Launch Application".

  3. If you want to experiment with images in any of the image galleries, press "Image Galleries" in the main menu, then press one of the different categories of images in the galleries and then press the thumbnail of the image you want  to experiment with.

  4. When you are using one of your own images, the ImageX window will be displayed when you launch the application. Press "File" and then press "Open" and select an image file from one of your directories. The desired image will be displayed in the ImageX window.

  5. When you are using one of the images from one of the image galleries, the desired image will be displayed in the ImageX window when you press its thumbnail as above indicated

  6. Press "Image" in the tool bar of the ImageX window. A menu of image processing functions will appear. Press the desired function and wait until the processed image is displayed.

  7. "Selection" of Area of Interest function. Use the mouse to select any desired part of the image being displayed by pressing the left button while moving the cursor around the area of interest. When the periphery of the area is completed press "New From Selection" and the desired area will be displayed in a new window. This new image can be processed by any of the other functions.

  8. Expansion. Any displayed image can be expanded by pressing "Expansion" and selecting the amount of expansion from 4X to 1024X.

  9. Enhancement. Any displayed image can be enhanced by pressing the "Enhance" button. When used in combination with expansion, you should experiment with the specific images and see whether doing the enhancement first and then the expansion gives a better final quality than vice versa. Normally, the best quality is obtained when enhancement is done after expansion.

  10. Encryption. You will be prompted to enter any encryption key of your choice for protecting your private collection of images (that may include important document images) as well as your privacy. A window will appear indicating the name of the encrypted file and its directory path. Press "Clean Up" and then press "Yes" when asked whether you want to execute your decision.

  11. Decryption. Press "File" and then press "Decrypt". You will be asked to select the file you want to decrypt. After you select the desired encrypted file in its directory, you then will be asked to enter the encryption key. Once you enter it, the decrypted file will be displayed and, if desired, it can be processed with any of the other functions in the "Image" menu.

  12. Compression. You can select 1 to 4 levels of perceptually lossless image compression with level 1 being mathematically lossless. Once the compression is done, a window will appear indicating the name of the compressed file and its directory path. Press "Clean Up" and then press "Yes" when asked whether you want to execute your decision.

  13. Decompression. Press "File" and then press "Decompress". Select the file to decompress and the decompressed image will be displayed. It can be processed with any of the other functions in the "Image" menu.

  14. The functions "Denoise" and "Deblur" in the "Image" menu are self-explanatory.

  15. Compress/Encrypt. If you want to reduce the storage requirements of your images and protect them at the same time, use the "Compress/Encrypt" function. You will be asked for the desired level of perceptually lossless compression and the encryption key. When this function ends, a window will appear indicating the name of the processed file and its directory path. Then press "Clean Up" and "Yes" as before.

  16. Decrypt/Decompress. Press "File" and then "Decrypt/Decompress". You will be asked for the desired file and the decryption key. The decrypted and decompressed file will be displayed and it can then be processed with other functions in the "Image" menu if desired.

  17. When you finish processing a given image, you can save and/or print the end result as desired (using the corresponding buttons under "File") but, in order not to clog your system with all the intermediate images generated, it is important to press the "Clean Up" button and then press "Yes" when asked whether you want to execute your decision.
